The revelation came to light when eagle-eyed Reddit users uncovered an Instagram story shared by Shoaib Malik on March 25 of the previous year.In the story, Shoaib had extended warm birthday wishes to Sana Javed and had tagged not only her but also her then-husband Umair Jaswal.
Fans and followers are now questioning the dynamics between the trio and seeking clarification on the sudden shift from a friendly gesture to a marriage announcement. Many people are speculating that Shoaib and Sana were having an extra-marital affair while she was still Umair’s wife. Neither Shoaib nor Sana have issued a statement addressing the resurfaced Instagram story or the questions raised by fans, as of now.
Sania Mirza confirms divorce with Shoaib Malik after his wedding with Sana Javed
This is Shoaib’s third marriage after he took the vows with Ayesha Siddiqui and Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza. Sana and Umar got married in 2020 and were together until their divorce in 2023. After marrying Shoaib, Sana Javed changed her name in the bio on her Instagram account. It now reads ‘Sana Shoaib Malik.’
While Shoaib shared joyous pictures of the nuptials on his Instagram, a report from The Pakistani Daily claimed that none of Shoaib’s family members attended the wedding. It further suggested serious concerns from Malik’s sisters regarding his divorce with Sania Mirza, citing the tennis star was tired of ex-husband’s alleged extra-marital affairs.
Reacting to Shoaib’s marriage announcement, Sania’s sister Anam Mirza took to Instagram to confirm that the retired tennis star and the former Pakistani cricketer have been divorced for a few months now.
“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eyes. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead. At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy,” read her post.
Earlier, a family source told PTI that Sania had initiated the divorce proceedings. “It was a ‘khula’. I do not wish to comment beyond this,” said the source. Khula refers to the right of a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband.
